Meet Our Newest Herdsire: MAX Boer Goats Red Hot- N- Ripped

He's still young, but he'll be servicing many of our percentage and purebred does (minus his twin sister) in the fall of 2007 for a spring crop of kids and our open does in the spring of 2008.

In 2001, we began with a pair of percentage Boer does, Peaches & Cream. Since then, our herd has grown to include a number of 100% Full Blood Boer goats. Both herd sires are 100% registered Boers out of champion and meat-producing bloodlines. Whether you are looking for show or meat goats, we can provide a selection of goats from which to choose. Herd genetics include: Crown C Mufasa, Dixon FGF War Dancer, Leroy, and Venter.

Our farm is an old Christmas tree farm with hundreds of mature pines that were planted in the late sixties. Each year we've mowed and weed-whacked down in the 'pines' area and each year everything grows back. After attending the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture's Farming for the Future Conference where Jean-Marie Luginbuhl from North Carolina State University spoke about meat goats & forage systems, I realized that I had a premium browse area that would offer my herd access to high protein as well as significantly reduce parasites. We are in the process of installing a perimeter fence around the pines area and then sectioning it into several paddock areas so the goats don't over-browse and kill of the 'weeds' such as poison ivy, multiflora rose and brambles.  We have also been experimenting with electric netting and spot grazing.

Sometimes there will be a line of goats standing on the backs' of each other with the first goat against the tree for support so they can all nibble on the branch overhead.

Even our 2007 fall breeding buck will take a break from his work when turned out on to fresh browse pasture.

Ok, so Jersey girl isn't a goat, but she likes to browse, too.
